A garage floor coating seals the slab so salt, brine and water stop soaking into it. On Cape Breton that is the difference between concrete that lasts and concrete that flakes apart near the door.
We grind, repair, prime and coat. Most garages are a two day job, and you are parking on the floor three days after we finish.

Every vehicle that comes home in winter carries brine and rock salt off Highway 125, the Trans-Canada or Kings Road. It drips onto the slab and runs into the concrete.
Bare concrete is porous. The salt water goes in, sits in the pores and freezes. Ice takes up more room than water, so it pushes the surface apart from inside. Do that a few hundred times and the top of the slab comes off in flakes.
Salt air off the water does the same thing more slowly, all year round. That is why garages in Whitney Pier and Louisbourg show wear that inland garages of the same age do not.
What Makes The Best Garage Flooring?
Preparation first, product second. The best garage flooring system in the world will lift if it goes over a sealed, dusty or wet slab.
For most Cape Breton garages the answer is a full flake broadcast with a polyaspartic top coat. You get thickness, grip, salt resistance and a floor that will not yellow.
Where budget is tight, a solid colour epoxy with a clear coat is a real improvement over bare concrete. Where a floor has to be back in use tomorrow, a straight polyaspartic build does it.
Cracked, Pitted Or Spalled Concrete
Almost every garage we quote needs some repair. Cracks get cut into a V, cleaned out and filled with a resin patch harder than the surrounding concrete, then ground flush.
Spalled areas, usually the strip inside the door where salt collects, get rebuilt to level with a patching compound before any coating goes on.
What we cannot fix with a coating is structural movement. If a slab has heaved or settled and the two sides of a crack no longer line up, that needs addressing first. We will tell you straight if that is what we find.
How Soon Can I Park On It?
Walk on the floor about 24 hours after the top coat. Park on it after 72 hours. Heavy shelving and a full tool chest can go back at the same time as the vehicle.
Those numbers assume a heated or reasonably mild slab. In cold weather we heat the space and adjust the schedule, and we tell you the real dates before we start.
Driving on a coating too early is the one mistake that shows. Hot tyres on soft resin leave marks that will not lift.
Cost Of Garage Floor Coating
Square footage, slab condition and system choice set the price. A single bay in decent shape is the low end. A double or triple bay with significant patching is the high end.
We quote it as one written number, with the preparation, materials and labour listed. No hourly billing and no charges added after the fact.
Kits from a hardware store cost a couple of hundred dollars and skip the grinding. Those floors peel, and the peeled coating has to be ground off before a proper system can go down. It is the most expensive way to get a coated garage.

Flake epoxy flooring is the system most garages and basements on this island end up with. An epoxy base coat goes down, vinyl chips are broadcast into it while it is wet, and a clear top coat seals the lot.
Polyaspartic floor coating is a fast-curing resin that goes down in colder temperatures than epoxy and does not yellow in sunlight. On an island with a long cold season and a short good-weather window, that matters.
Commercial epoxy flooring has to survive forklifts, wash-downs, dropped stock and inspection. It also has to go in without shutting a business down for a week.
A coated basement floor turns a cold, dusty slab into a room you use. It seals the concrete, it stops the dust, and it does not trap moisture the way carpet and underlay do.
Concrete floor coating covers everything a bare slab can be turned into: garage, basement, porch, patio, workshop, mechanical room or shop floor. Same principle every time, different system depending on what the floor meets.
Tell us the room, the rough size and how it gets used, and we will come and price it.
